There are two types of persimmon
grown in Australia – astringent and sweet
(non astringent)
persimmons. The commercial industry is focused almost on
the sweet type, whereas it is very common for astringent
persimmon to be grown in backyards.
Astringent persimmon need to be eaten very soft whereas
our sweet persimmons are eaten like an apple or soft depending on preference.
Unfortunately many consumers confuse the two types and do not understand
that commercially grown varieties are sweet.
The most common and best flavoured/tasting varieties
are "Fuyu” and “Jiro”
and are available seeded or seedless.
Mary Valley Orchards already invested in the
future and all our Fuyu and Jiro varieties are non-astringent, seedless
and sweet so you can enjoy the full pleasure and flavour
of our sweet persimmons without a tardy taste or biting into seeds (today’s
kids will not touch seeded fruit) when eating our sweet persimmon.
